Barnsley did what they usually do at home to Leeds and absolutely battered their Yorkshire rivals.
Going into the game I for one was worried but the result was never in doubt as Barnsley inflicted more Oakwell pain on the great Leeds United.
Chris Dagnall stole the show for the reds with both goals in the 2 - 0 victory. Dagnall was finally rewarded with some goals to go with his hard working performances this season.
The first was a penalty which he confidently put away. And it`s amazing what one goal can do for confidence as Dagnall sealed victory with a nice finish for the second.
It was his first league goals of the season and hopefully he will be able to kick on from here and fire some more goals in the reds relegation fight.
Barnsley went in at half time 0 - 0 after completely dominating the first half but again reds fans feared it would be another one of those days and that Barnsley would come away empty handed once again.
Leeds keeper Paddy Kenny was forced in to his first save after only 90 seconds. Kenny did well to turn over O`Brien`s deflected shot following good hold up play from Harewood. Harewood was magnificent all day holding the ball up and the Leeds centre backs just could not live with his strength and stature. Certainly the best Harewood has played all season and he ran Dagnall to close for the man of the match award.
The match was fast and frantic with Barnsley playing at a much higher tempo than they have for most of the season and the players looking hungry against their Yorkshire rivals.
Kenny was in action again on 13 minutes when he saved a Dawson effort from 25 yards. Goldbourne kept the move alive and found Harewood who struck low on to the post.
Steele had to be quick off his line on 17 minutes but it was still all Barnsley as the reds continued pressing forward with real intent and Leeds continued to look poor.
Cranie had one cleared off the line then O`Brien saw an effort punched wide by Kenny.
Ironic cheers came from the Leeds fans as for the first time in the game they managed to string three passes together.
O`Brien was forced to leave the filed on the half hour mark after coming out on the wrong end of a strong challenge. He was replaced by Jacob Mellis as the midfielder returned after the longest dead leg injury in the history of football.
The Leeds fans didn`t like what they were seeing and began to jeer as Barnsley continued to boss the game.
Perkins then fed Dagnall but the reds front man dinked a chip wide. The just before the break Harewood fired a low cross across the box but Dagnall just couldn`t reach it.
The second half continued where the first had left off with Barnsley the more dominant although it was obvious Warnock had some stern words for the Leeds players at half time.
Leeds had the best chance of the second half on 57 minutes but Becchio could only smash against the bar.
Speaking of Becchio he quickly realised that Kennedy was the weakest of the centre halves in the air so sat on him all game. Vokes did the same for Burnley. This could cause us problems going forward and the reds need to sort this and make sure McNulty takes the big man.
Dagnall raced clear onto a Mellis pass only to be fouled in the area. Penalty to Barnsley. After much discussion on who should take it, Dagnall stepped forward to score, Kenny going the wrong way, 1 - 0 to the super reds.
Dagnall then bagged his second only three minutes later. Mellis found Harewood, the big striker played the ball in to the path of Dagnall who struck wonderfully with his left peg to put Barnsley 2 - 0 up.
Dagnall ran his socks off; he was excellent all day and was as good with his tracking back as he was going forward. He then got the better of Byram to set up Harewood whose shot was deflected over the bar.
Harewood then had another chance that he fired wide of the left hand post on 85 minutes and with the game won Flicker saw fit to take off Dagnall who received a standing ovation from the crowd for his man of the match performance.
Full time and 2 - 0 to the reds and as comfortable a victory as I have witnessed for a long time.
Have Barnsley turned the corner with that performance or was it just a case of it was only Leeds we always hammer them?
Were Barnsley that good that they made Leeds look that bad or are Leeds actually that bad and we won`t have a game that easy against anyone.
Time will tell but for now let`s enjoy the victory and hope it can give us the momentum we need to stay in this league.
