On a blustery day at Oakwell, Millwall brushed of their recent poor form to claim all three points against a poor Barnsley team that still looked in shock over the recent departure of Danny Drinkwater. The Reds line up showed one change from last weekends victory over Leicester, Craig Davies coming in for Drinkwater.
The early proceedings were dominated by the severe winds blowing around Oakwell, with Barnsley struggling to break out of their own half. Millwall started to gain confidence, either side of a few wild efforts from loanee Miles Addison Milwall gradually were becoming the stronger team. On 29 minutes were awarded a free kick after a clumsy piece of play from Addison a pull on Harry Kane was given as a foul, this despite the Referee giving Milwall an advantage which they got a shot from. Despite this the free kick was awarded which was delivered into the box and for reasons only known to himself Addison dragged Liam Trotter to the floor, a blatant penalty which earned Addison a yellow card. Up stepped former Blade Darius Henderson, who made no mistake with a well placed penalty past Luke Steele.
arnsley needed a response although this was not to happen minutes late after sloppy midfield play an exceptional through ball from Nadjim Abdou, Henderson beat Stephen Foster to the ball before a fine finish made it 2-0, calling for some fans to chant '2 nil to the Referee'. There was still a chance for Barnsley to miss a guilt edge chance through Bobby Hassell after an inviting cross from Jay Mcevely.
HALF TIME 2-0
From the kick off in the second half there seemed to be a change of balance in the game with Barnsley enjoying more possesion which ended in Chris Dagnall firing wide from 20 yards. Milwall were still looking dangerous though and if not for Luke Steele would have had their third prior to Henderson's hat-trick goal on 75 mins after a sloppy pass from Mcevely. The fans were beginning to leave and some took their anger out on Mcevely with unnecessary booing.
This upped the efforts of the reds and Addison nearly made amends for his silly foul for the penalty but his header was narrowly wide, in a goal mouth scramble in which Stephen Foster was clearly being impeded in his attempts to jump for a header. Barnsley did grab a consolation on 88 minutes though after good work from Ricardo Vaz Te, Jimmy McNulty side footed home his first goal for the club. This was all too late for the reds.
