Barnsley battled out a goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday at a very blustery Oakwell this afternoon.
The first chance fell to Barnsley after four minutes when Jon Macken fed Campbell-Ryce but the Jamaican hammered the ball high into the stand.
The referee Steve Tanner did well to keep his cards in his pocket as Wade Small was unlucky not to gain an Oscar for his theatrical dive in the box six minutes in.
Adam Bolder also managed to escape Steve Tanner`s book when he brought down Diego Leon after the Spaniard had left him eating dust.
Oakwell thought they had witnessed goal of the month after Macken turned spectacularly on the edge of the box and let fly towards the top corner, but his shot was inches wide.
Bobby Hassell did brilliantly to create Barnsley`s next chance on 16 minutes. Hassell turned in the middle of the park and found Diego Leon with a 40 yard pass, the little midfielder turned inside onto his right foot but his 25 yard effort went wide of the target.
Wednesday`s first chance of the game fell to Enoch Showumni on 18 minutes after Graham Kavanagh whipped in a free kick, the Nigerian didn`t know much about it and Luke Steele leapt to tip the ball over the bar.
Showumni then turned provider two minutes later after laying off Marcus Tudgay, but the striker hit his 20 yard effort wide.
Wade Small was eventually rightfully booked by the referee for a second dive in the Barnsley half. Steve Tanner then evened things out as he dished out a yellow for Bobby Hassell`s first bad challenge of the game.
Wednesday were pressuring and forced several corners and perhaps should have gone in front when Wood met Kavanagh`s corner on 34 minutes.
Rob Kozluk was the next name into the referee`s book after a late challenge on Tudgay.
A great cross from Jon Macken on 35 minutes was met by nobody in the Wednesday box as Beevers tried a half-hearted clearance.
Showumni showed good pace on the wing and almost provided the first goal of the game when his cross come shot was cleared from the six-yard area.
Richard Wood should have broken the deadlock just before half time, but somehow the defender headed his shot over an open goal from 4 yards.
Wade Small was replaced by Ben Sahar on 55 minutes; Small appeared to have picked up a hip injury. Bolder then scuffed a 40 yard effort well wide of the mark on 55 minutes after finding space in the middle of the park.
A relatively quiet opening to the second half saw a second Sheffield Wednesday player cautioned for diving, Adam Bolder failed to con Steve Tanner on the hour mark.
Simon Davey sent Kayode Odejayi on to replace Daniel Nardiello in search of breaking the deadlock.
Ben Sahar then showed great skill as his back heel found Burton O`Brien, but the midfielder shot straight towards Luke Steele.
Steele was busy again minutes later although Showumni`s effort was tame enough to gather easily.
Barnsley had strong appeals for a penalty turned down on 66 minutes when Hassell`s long throw appeared to have been handled by a Wednesday defender.
Odejayi was working hard closing down the Wednesday defence; the striker will be looking for a place in Davey`s starting eleven for the next league game at Blackpool.
Things looked painful for Peter Gilbert as the defender appeared to tear his groin after an awkward turn; Spurr came on as his replacement after 72 minutes.
Van Homoet then gave the ball away for Sahar to have his shot saved by Steele.
Brian Laws looked to liven things up as he brought Deon Burton on to replace Enoch Showumni after 75 minutes. Barnsley made a second substitution as Devaney replaced Diego Leon.
Wednesday forced several more corners but it was the reds who had another chance on 81 minutes when Foster met Campbell-Ryce`s cross, but the header was straight at Grant.
The Tykes made their third and final substitution as Coulson came on to replace Campbell-Ryce.
Three minutes were added on at the end and Barnsley had to finish the game with ten men as Kozluk was shown a second yellow as he lunged in late on Tudgay.
Wednesday came closest to winning it as a short free kick allowed Burton O`Brien to crack a wicked drive from 25 yards, but the shot hit the outside of Luke Steele`s left-hand post.
Simon Davey will be looking to shake up his attack as the Tykes have now failed to score in their last four league games and with a difficult trip to Blackpool next Tuesday, Barnsley are in desperate need of three points.
