Pinnock Pleased But Knows There's More To Come
Ethan Pinnock would have played in the Football League this coming season whatever after helping Forest Green to promotion into League Two last season but made the leap to the Championship at Barnsley.
Pinnock, who had joined Forest Green from Dulwich Hamlet, where he had made over 200 appearances after making his breakthrough as a 16 year old, last summer, signed a three year deal at Oakwell recently.
The central defender, Paul Heckingbottom could also use him at left back, was involved in the side beaten by Grimsby on Saturday but said he was happy enough with the performance shown.
He told the Official Website he was 'fairly pleased' but Pinnock, 24, knows there's plenty of room for improvement personally, which is seeing him fit in nicely at Barnsley, and collectively for the Reds.
'I'm fairly pleased, but there's still lots of room for improvement. We're still getting back to full sharpness, and I know I have a lot personally still to give. But it's been a steady start. Obviously coming into a new team, it does take a little while to adjust. But all the boys here are sound and I'm building new relationships every day.'
Pre-season is all about getting right for the season ahead and as much as Pinnock would prefer to play competitive football he knows it is what it is.
Pinnock said: 'We all have to get up to full speed. Everyone would prefer to be playing the competitive games, but it's part and parcel of this time of year, we need to get fit and ready so we can look forward to the start of the season.'
It's been quite a step up from the seventh tier of English football into the Championship in a little over a year - we'll find out soon enough how good Pinnock really is.
