Reds Draw At National League Guiseley

Reds Draw At National League Guiseley

Barnsley's pre-season preparations, as far as actual friendlies are concerned, got underway with a 3-3 draw at Guiseley on Tuesday, which saw Huddersfield linked Andy Yiadom wear the captains armband.

Paul Heckingbottom used plenty of players as the Reds boss turned to no fewer than 21 on the night, which also saw the Tykes come up against former striker Kayode Odejayi when he came on in the second half for the Lions at Nethermoor.

A deflected effort from returning summer recruit Lloyd Isgrove had Barnsley ahead before 'A.Trialist' drew our West Yorkshire hosts levels, also helped by a defection to beat young Reds goalkeeper Jack Walton.

Guiseley then struck again, once more 'A.Trialist' got it, rounding Walton to score.

Arriving as a free agent after his release by Crystal Palace, Zeki Fryers fired Barnsley level in the second half with a 30 yard half volley.

Odejayi was denied a goal by the crossbar but his header was followed up by Reece Thompson to once again put Guiseley ahead. Barnsley had the last word though when George Moncur bagged a 25 yard equaliser.

Reflecting on the game, Heckingbottom told the Official Website he saw plenty of things to please him.

'I saw lots of good things, especially with the ball. We passed it quicker, we broke lines with passes, there were lots and lots of crosses into the box. We should have had more goals really.'

However, there were other areas the boss is looking 'to address' going forward.

Adding: 'The flip-side of that was the stuff we don't want to see out of possession. Not the individual errors that led to goals, but other things, the tactical things that we need to address. But it's great that it's come out in a game because you can then show the players and highlight where we need them to improve.'
