Roberts Joins Birmingham - Scowen Seals QPR Switch

Barnsley have lost captain Marc Roberts, 26, to Championship rivals Birmingham.

The defender left Oakwell to join Harry Redknapp's Birmingham over the weekend for an undisclosed fee, signing a five year contract at St Andrew's.

Another big void will be left in the Barnsley defence but Roberts, signed from National League side Halifax in 2015, captaining the Tykes last season and making 40 appearances, couldn't resist the lure of Blues.

His exit might have been feared but it perhaps wasn't expected like that of Josh Scowen.

Scowen, 24, had turned down the offer of a new contract at Barnsley so had become a free agent.

QPR are the side, after interest had been shown at Premier League and Championship level, to secure the signature of the midfielder on a free transfer, who ends his Barnsley career with 44 appearances last season.

Arriving in January 2015 for an undisclosed fee, Scowen has signed a three year contract at Loftus Road.
