Barnsley came away from Doncaster with a point in a South Yorkshire derby that lacked the excitement which the score line might suggest. Both teams can point to some suspect refereeing denying them all three points but in truth a draw was probably the right result.
Nick Proschwitz scored twice for the reds including an 89th minute leveller to ensure honours were even at the Keepmoat stadium.
Proschwitz had also given Barnsley the lead as he looped over the Doncaster goalkeeper Sam Johnstone who was the favourite to claim the ball.
Jams Coppinger also scored a brace to give the home side a 2 - 1 lead. His first was in to an empty net after goalkeeper Luke Steele had dropped the ball when he collided with his own defender Martin Cranie. His second was a deflected shot which looked to have gifted the home side the points.
Proschwitz scored his second when he turned in a low cross. The German striker had also rattled the woodwork with a header just before.
Honours even in the end but a point is certainly better for Doncaster as both teams look to avoid the drop.
Barnsley can take positives from this result and performance but really need to start turning these draws in to wins.
Barnsley Player Ratings
A poor game for the Barnsley keeper, in fact the worst I have seen him have in a Barnsley shirt. He still made a couple of good saves but he lost his confidence after the first goal and his decision making became poor and he also completely missed a punch. I am a Steele fan and one bad game doesn`t mean that he needs dropping as most fans seemed to want to tell him in on Saturday. There`s no wonder he lost his confidence in the second half with his own fans behind him telling him how poor they thought he was. I really don`t know what fans think this will achieve. It can only hinder the team.
Looks good but may lose his place when McLaughlin is fit. Managed 90 minutes for the first time since his arrival.
Not up to his usual high standards but you can`t expect him to be faultless every game.
Not his best game given his recent form but a big improvement on earlier in the season.
Defended well and used the ball well, a great performance from our best left back.
Broke up play well and kept possession. Had a great chance to score when he broke forward but made the wrong decision. It`s nice to see him being given the chance from the start.
Kept his cool and looks like he could be a good player for the reds for the rest of this season.
A good left foot, composed on the ball and gives us something with his delivery from set pieces. Lacking match fitness but that will come.
A poor performance from Jennings especially with how he has been playing recently.
Worked hard for the team particularly down the left hand side in the first half.
Man of the match for his two goals that earned us a point. Always looks a threat in front of goal.
The team improved going forward with O`Brien coming on. Could be back in contention for a start at Wigan.
Looked a threat when Wilson introduced him. Should be used more.
