Barnsley To Show More Ambition

Don Rowing has stated that next season it is time for Barnsley to show more ambition and aim for the top six.

These are words I never thought I would hear from the mouth of Rowing but I am pleased that the board are willing to back Flicker and have had enough of relegation dog fights season after season.

This will also hopefully bring the fans back to Oakwell to get behind the team.

Realistically top six is still a big ask but if anyone can achieve it on this budget it is Flicker and this group of players.

My one worry however with this statement is that the expectations of the fans may now rise to the ridiculous and if we find ourselves in lower mid table safety then the fans will be unhappy and crowds could drop further.

I wouldn't worry about fans expectations until DF does his shopping closed season, he's obviously convinced the board to push the boat out a bit more this season, but I don't think we'll be buying anyone like "Lionel Messi" or "Ronaldo", so we'll have to watch this space, and hope the new purchases are of sufficient quality to take the club forward...having said that I've every faith that DF will do the business.

I have every faith too. He will still have to look for bargains but I believe he willbring in the right players.
