Player of Year Dinner Cancelled
Barnsley have been forced to cancel their player of the year dinner due to not selling enough tickets.
Only 40 tickets were sold for the event which is a sell out every year.
This is the first time that Barnsley have had to cancel the event.
This is a big blow for the club and quite surprising that the supporters didn`t want to go and show their appreciation for the effort that this group has put in, in their fight for survival.
Is it a sign of the times financially or more to do with what seems like the dwindling support of our club. I talk to old friends who were die hard supporters who used to travel home and away for over 20 years. Now they haven`t been for a couple of seasons and have no interest in going again.
I know the current climate is difficult but I can`t understand how you can so easily fall out of love with your football club.
If this mini revival under Flicker can`t get the supporters motivated then nothing will.
It was a lot worse about ten years ago when we went down to league one than it ever was under Hill, Robins and Davey and more people stuck by the club then.
My one fear is that if we do go down then crowds could plummet to an all-time low and render it almost impossible for Barnsley to bounce back. And what worries me the most about this is that most fans don`t seem to even care anymore.
Is this something that is happening just at Barnsley or is this happening at every struggling football club?
