Barnsley boss David Flitcroft believes that Scott Wiseman has finally won over the Barnsley fans.
This season Wiseman has come in for some unfair criticism from Barnsley fans in particular when filling in out of position at centre back early in the season.
When Flicker took over as manager he made a plea to the Barnsley fans to get off the lads back and get behind him the next time he pulls on a red shirt.
At the same time as Flicker made this plea he also had to drop Wiseman from the squad completely due to his fragile mental state caused by twitter abuse and booing from the crowds.
Wiseman`s recent form at right back has been excellent and the reds boss believes his recent form has finally won over the fans.
I wish this were the case but I`m afraid it isn`t. He has managed to win over a few of them but for some it is still a case of no matter how well he plays they will never like him.
On Monday against Leicester he put in a faultless display and could have easily have received the man of the match. For some that still isn`t enough. I heard people admit that he played well but in same breath say that he shouldn`t be in the team and is useless.
Unfortunately I don`t think these people will ever change their minds no matter how well he plays.
I feel sorry for Wiseman as he has played well for the majority of the season, does nothing but try his best for the team and deserves his place at right back.
At least the boos and online abuse has now stopped even if it is still there amongst the conversations in the crowd.
I wish Flicker was right about Wiseman winning the crowd over but I`m afraid the majority of the fans I speak to and overhear still don`t rate him and are only quiet about it because of the plea Flicker made to the fans.
It is their appreciation for the job Flitcroft is doing and not what Wiseman is doing that have won the fans over.
Flicker deserves that appreciation and respect from the fans for what he has done but so does Wiseman. I just can`t understand why the majority of the fans can`t see this.
