Striker on Trial

As Barnsley`s search for a new striker continues, former Reading and Hereford striker Mathieu Manset has begun a trial at Oakwell.

The 23-year-old Frenchman has just left Swiss club FC Sion after a spell on loan at Chinese big spenders Shanghai Shenhua.

He moved from Hereford to Reading for £400,000 in 2011but managed only five goals in 29 appearances. Inevitably one of those five was against Barnsley at Oakwell.

I don`t like to judge a player before I have seen them but his goal record is less than impressive.

What we need now is an out and out goal scorer. Harewood and Dagnall will work hard but never likely to score many goals.

Young Danny Rose looks like he could be a natural goal scorer but the last thing he needs is the pressure of being the man Barnsley look to when they need a goal.

Whoever Barnsley bring in up top needs to be a proven goal scorer at this level and ease the burden on the three strikers we already have at the club.

True, we need a proven scorer, but there are a lot of names out there who are on the clubs benches, because they are out of form, so it will be hard to get the right sort of players we need to come to the club, but you never know, stranger things have happened..?

Yeah out and out goal scorers are hard to come across you just have to hope somehow you can stumble across one on the cheap.
