'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dee Dah Denies Tykes

Jamie Vardy's late strike denied Barnsley all 3 points at the King Power Stadium. Former Stocksbridge Park Steels and Sheffield Wednesday player Vardy popped up late on after some good work by David Nugent to level for the Foxes.

Leicester had the better of the the opening stages with only the excellence of the reliable Luke Steele keeping the sides Level.

However a goal looked inevitable even at this early stage and it duly arrived after nine minutes when Anthony Knockaert drilled home left footed from 12 yards to give the overworked Steele no chance with his fifth goal of the season.

The Barnsley players were putting in the effort for the under pressure Hill and it was a few tough tackles that strung the Reds into action. These challenges were followed by a 27th minute Stephen Dawson Strike which put the reds level.

Leicester had been rattled by the equaliser, they were left distraught after conceding a second after 39 minutes. This time it was Reuben Noble-Lazarus who finished off a move involving Jim O`Brien with a stylish overhead kick from close range to put his side 2-1 ahead.

Buzsaky had the chance to put the reds 3-1 up just before the break but shot wide.

Barnsley defended well in the second half until sub Vardy popped up late on to level.

Big Christmas for the Reds, can Hill lead them to safety or is a change required in the Oakwell hotseat??

Just looking at suggeste teams by chiefred. Why do you always suggest leaving out Mellis. The stats show melis a the major provider of assists?? Do you have any thoughts on this??

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez is keen on adding to his midfield and could sign Jacob Mellis. Could sign for £400k from Barnsley #WAFC

You will see Oldtime that all these assists came early in the season. His form of late has been poor and his effort and attitude on the pitch leaves a lot to be desired. He is talented but hasn't turned up for weeks now. Hill likes to play him because he knows how good he can be on his day but when he reverted to 4-4-2 he had move Mellis out wide because he can't trust him to work hard enough in the middle and put a foot in when needed. Talent alone isn't enough, he needs someone to get hold of him and give him a kick up the a***, there's a reason he has ended up at Barnsley. It's not for his lack of football ability but he's got a serious attitude problem. I'd like to know if other fans can see this. Most people who sit around me moan about him for 90 minutes but then moan when he's not in the team or if he's taken off. I just think dropping him for a game or two could be what he needs.

Is my tactical nowise lacking?? If I were a manager and the personnel of the opposition was clearly better than my players, then you have to attempt to gain a tactical advantage. Matching teams up does not really allow this. If you gain an advantage and the game is open then you may consider matching up to protect what you have got? 4-4-2 does not really give us any advantage!

He hasn't played a tarditional 4-4-2 much. He went back to a 4-2-3-2 on Saturday. He's tried various different formations with a 5 in midfield and a 4 in a diamond and no wide men. The best run of results was using the diamond but this then went to pot after a few bad results. Then for a spell with 5 in midfield we were having a lot the ball but had nothing up front. He brought the strikers in on loan so went 2 up top again and then for this one went back to one up top. He seems to have played just one up front more in away games and two up front at home to go for it more. With the result at Leicester you'd say he got it right this week but if he sticks with the same against Wednesday and we don't get a result then the fans will be moaning about why he didn't go back to two up front against Wednesday.
