Wiseman Closes Twitter Account

Wiseman Closes Twitter Account

Barnsley defender Scott Wiseman has been forced to close down his twitter account because of the abuse he has been receiving from Barnsley fans about his performances this season.

Wiseman has played most of the season out of position at centre back due to injuries in the early part of the season.

In the early part of the season he did well there and he and Foster complemented each other with Foster to win the ball in the air and Wiseman to cover with his pace.

Recently Wiseman has made a few mistakes which resulted in him being dropped for the game against Burnley.

From what I hear from fans on the terraces it seems like the majority have a grudge against Wiseman no matter if he plays good, bad or indifferent and for me he has been all three at times this season but he could put a man of the match display in and it wouldn`t be enough for the fans.

I hear many things from many fans such as he`s Hill`s favourite because he came from Rochdale or I don`t like because he knocked Bobby Hassell out of the team. Rarely do I hear reasons for him being so disliked that are to do with football.

Some players just never click with fans at certain clubs and maybe that is the case with Wiseman. The fact that Hill dropped Foster from centre half and left Wiseman in also left many fans, myself included, baffled but no matter who plays there, there seems to be problems.

McNulty was awful there against Burnley, worse than Wiseman had been in any game this season. Yet McNulty played well there last season and could just be lacking matches. So maybe Hill was right to stick with Wiseman for so long?

Every fan has the right to their opinion as they all pay good money to watch their team but I don`t think abusing players on twitter is on at all.

To abuse a player in this way is uncalled for and in the long run won`t do the team any good particularly if Wiseman has to play, something like that will always be in the back of his mind and will affect him as a player.

I am interested to hear the fans perception on Wiseman as a player so get on here and give your comments.

I would also like to know if anyone has seen this abuse on twitter. If you have let us know how bad it was in your opinion. No need to repeat what was said, particularly if there was swearing involved.

Personally i rate Wiseman, prefer him at right back where he can use his pace to overlap his winger and create space to put a ball in or run at men whilst the winger fills in. For me he has looked a little shaky at centre back in recent games but he is still very inexperienced in that position and mistakes will creep in whilst he gets to grips with it. Fans abuse on Twitter is just appalling and for me signifies everything that is wrong with some fans these days, what kind of effect do they expect it to have on him? Also, on the subject of fans blaming him for Bobby Hassell being out of the side, i personally would pick Wiseman over Hassell every day of the week. Dont get me wrong Hassell has been a superb servant over the last 9 years and has been a big player for us in that time but, sentiment aside, he can no longer cut it in the championship, the legs have gone and a drop in the leagues would be beneficial for him

I agree Wiseman is certainly better at right back but until the last few games covered well at centre back. Fans these days do seem to think they have a right to say anything they like to a player on twitter and I think it is something wrong with modern society as well as football. It was probably a small minority and even those fans who can't stand Wiseman as a player wouldn't dream of abusing him on twitter.

Wiseman has played alot better than others who have kept their place in the team this season like goldbourne. No player derserves to have so much abuse that they have to come off a social network site from their own fans, especially when all the player has done for the club is tried his best. he has made a few mistakes recently but over all his form has been good and he has been playing out of position. like you said in the main artical, you never get a reason for the hatred towards wiseman, i spoke to a fan on sunday who said "he's should never be picked again" yet when we went through individual games he'd played this season the fan said "yeah he actually did ok in that one" for around 80% of the games he'd played. he did however finish the coversation by saying that playing well shouldnt get someone like wiseman into the team and hill is blind when it comes to him. wasnt sure what to make of that. how can u agree he's played well but think that he shouldnt be picked regardless

Everyone will have different opinions on players and there are some that no matter how well they play certain fans won't like but that does not excuse abusing players on twitter. Forums like this are for fans to vent their frustration of certain players and the banter should be between the fans not direct abuse towards the player. Twitter should be a good thing for football fans and players but the way people use it it is anything but.
