Keith Hill

Keith Hill

Barnsley boss Keith Hill certainly splits opinions of the Barnsley fans at the moment and I would like to see the fans comment on here with their opinions.

I like him. He tries to play football the right way. He`s got to work on limited resources and constantly has to rebuild a team due to the best players leaving. He`s also quite funny with press interviews and for those unaware he likes to slip song titles in when being interviewed on radio Sheffield.

No manager is perfect. Today I think he made a mistake in not starting with a recognised striker and the team he picked today was reminiscent of the defeat away at Coventry last season when in both these games he seems to have set out to try for a 0 - 0 draw.

I think he does things like this when he feels the pressure coming from the fans after a few bad results. This seems to cloud his judgement and he loses the plot a bit and panics and makes decisions like he did in those two games. He`s still young in terms of management and he will learn from is mistakes.

Many fans are now calling for his head but I ask this, who could we get instead who is any better or would do a better job?

Barnsley don`t have the money to get a big name manager who might be able to do a better job than Hill so I think sacking him for anyone else they may be able to get would most definitely be a backwards step and mean that the club have more chance of going down than they do now.

These are his players and a lot have not played at this level before Hill gave them the chance and for my money he gets the most out of what he has.

If certain players are injured such as Craig Davies, there is not much else to choose from which is when the team struggle.

The run of managers after Dave Bassett showed that sacking managers isn`t the way forward. After every sacking it was almost as if they were to appoint someone worse.
Just look back at some of the terrible managers we had in that period such as Parkin, Spackman and Hart.

Let`s not even get on to how bad Robins and Davey were especially considering the money they had at their disposal and the brand of football we had to watch under them.

I would like to see Hill have the money available that Davey wasted on players such as 500k for Mostto and 250k for Odejayi and many more.

Or the money Robins had to spend on all the loan players` wages such as Trippier, O`Connor, Arismendi, Mellis and Harewood.

And yes we have Mellis and Harewood now but not on the Premier league wages they were on then.

Hill is clearly frustrated with the unreasonable expectations but on him and the team from the fans and the press. This is something I think he repeats far too often and gets the fans backs up a bit.

He said today he was pleased to be linked with the Blackpool job as it will hopefully show the fans what a good job he is doing on a limited budget.

I don`t think he will get the Blackpool job as they will probably want someone with a more proven track record but someone could take a punt on him and I don`t think he would hesitate in leaving and then the fans would get their wish.

I say keep faith with Hill. I can`t think of a better manager we`ve had since Wilson particularly with him being the most financially restricted in that time too.
