Takeover Rumours

Rumours have begun circulating that an Italian Consortium are the front runners for a takeover at Barnsley.

It is reported that the Consortium owns a Serie A club and are hoping to takeover Barnsley in a similar situation to what is happening at Watford.

The Italians plan to loan players to the reds and bring in their own management team.

This in my opinion would be a disaster and you only have to look at Watford as precedent for that. If this is the case Cryne needs to tell them that the club is not for sale at any price.

When I first heard the proposed takeover news I was a little excited. I assumed that the interested parties had been impressed with the way the super reds had started the season and wanted to give Hillcroft the funds to build on this impressive start.

I would be more than happy if this was case but this possibility seems a remote one.

The club should only be sold to the right people who have the interests of Barnsley football club at heart and who will stick with the current management team. Not to a group who wish to use our club as a feeder team for a bigger club and who will more than likely employ an inferior manager because they are 'mates`.

though I do see your point of view! I have been thinking similar things and that I would not like to see our club slip any further. However when you look at the big picture and weigh up the options is this not a risk worth taking??

Not if the Watford model is anything to go by. Sometimes money doesn't make a difference if the owners are intent on using the club to give Italian players first team experience who aren't yet good enough to play. I personally would rather us continue with our limited budget if this is the proposed takeover. The rumour I hear now is that the club is Genoa. I don't know how much truth there is in that.
