Chelsea in for Stones

Chelsea in for Stones

Reports suggest that Chelsea are interested in signing teenage defender John Stones from Barnsley.

Stones has impressed for the reds this season after breaking in to the first team. His displays at right back earned the 18 year old a call to the England under 19 team and has put him on the radar of other clubs.

Chelsea were rumoured to watch Stones against Blackpool and preparing a £2 million bid to test the reds resolve.

Keith Hill expressed his desire for Stones to stay at Oakwell and continue his development with himself and Flicker.

The Barnsley boss believes a move to Chelsea would be the wrong decision at this stage of his career and Stones would be best served playing first team football at Barnsley for at least another two seasons.

Despite Hill's opinions on the matter the decision may not be his if Chelsea do come calling. A bid of £2 million or more would surely have the Barnsley board considering the sale.

However if Stones were to continue his rapid development and play for a couple more seasons at Oakwell then Barnsley could be looking at a lot more than £2 million for him.

Time will tell if anything will come of the interest but I would aim to keep him a little longer now the club have him tied down on a long term contract.
