Gonzalez Gone

Barnsley have decided against keeping goalkeeper David Gonzalez at the club now that Ben Alnwick has completed his suspension.

The 31 year old Columbian was signed on a non-contract basis to cover for Alnwick`s suspension and injured number one Luke Steele.

Gonzalez made his debut at home to Middlesbrough in the reds first league game of the season. After a decent performance against 'Boro, he followed it up with a number of errors in two heavy away defeats conceding 8 goals in total.

With Alnwick back from suspension, Barnsley felt it only fair to let Gonzalez go and have the chance to find a new club with a few days of the transfer window remaining.

Hopefully Alnwick will prove to be an able deputy while Steele is injured but from what I have seen so far I am counting down the days for Steele`s return to action.

i have to say i am suprised that alnwick has had is actions forgiven so quickly. It was schoolboy behaviour and I hope the matter has been dealt with internally at Oakwell. I agree that giving Gonzalez the chance to find another club is fair after he help us out! Have I just wrote help us out. Is this how low things have got? We have to be helped out.

If Gonzalez had been any good then I don't think Alnwick would have been forgiven so quickly especially with Hill's reaction after the incident. Think his performance away at Brighton (not that he had much protection in front of him) sealed his fate gave Alnwick a second chance.

No player is bigger than our club! I hope alnwick can turn around his fortunes at oakwell but its a bad start! I remember Carl Regan getting sent off in front of the ponte on what I believe was his debut but it was not for anything like Alnwick.

I remember the Regan one too. Not only did Alnwick get sent off in his first game but he also looked poor in the pre-season friendlies. Let's hope he improves on performance and attitude pretty quick.
