Keeper Signed

Barnsley have signed goalkeeper David Gonzalez to solve their keeper crisis ahead of the opening league fixture at home to Middlesbrough.

The Colombian has signed on a non-contract basis to cover for the absence of the injured Luke Steele and suspended Ben Alnwick.

Gonzalez`s former clubs include Man City, Leeds, Brighton and Aberdeen. The 30 year old also has 2 international caps to his name so comes to Barnsley with a bit of pedigree behind him.

This signing was an essential one before the first league game following Alnwick`s stupidity at Rochdale. I am not sure how good he is but a keeper needed to be signed and Hill and the club have acted promptly.

Rumours suggest another player could be in either before Saturday or if not before the Wolves game on Tuesday. I must say I have been impressed with Barnsley`s recruitment this summer and also turning down bids for players they don`t have to sell so let`s hope it can be a good season for the reds.
