Hendrie before he was manager played well for Barnsley and helped the team to the high levels of the Premier League. His career before was prolific at Bradford and Middleborough before the move to South Yorkshire. Hendrie was also in the PFA teams of `87 and `88. Surprisingly Hendrie held a club record of 173 consecutive games for the Bantams only for it to be broken by club legend Geoff Smith. Hendrie succeeded Wilson after the fall from the top flight but did not achieve what was expected and was sacked in April 1999.

endrie is now helping his two sons to play professionally as they are competing at Bradford City and Manchester United.
