Captain Abandons Ship

Captain Abandons Ship

Last season's Player of the Year Jason Shackell has departed Oakwell for Derby County.

The 27-year-old defender was signed last summer by Mark Robins from Wolves and was installed immediately as the club captain, pushing Stephen Foster down the pecking order to vice-captain.

Shackell has been the subject of major interest from Derby County since the end of the season and after two unsuccessful bids from the Rams, they have finally got their man.

The former Norwich City man had an outstanding season for Barnsley and earned plaudits from beyond his own club, which in the end have served to turn his head.

Best of luck, Jason.
