The Disco's Done

Martin Devaney has been released by Barnsley Football Club after six seasons with the club.

First team opportunities had become scarce for Disco of late at Barnsley, with the former Watford man making just seven first team appearances in the 2010/11 season.

Devaney joined Barnsley in the summer of 2005 and was intstrumental in the Tykes successful bid for promotion in his debut season, scoring six goals and making numerous assists including one for Paul Hayes in the Play-Off Final against Swansea City at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Another five goals in a solid season for the Reds in 2006/2007 saw Devaney retain his place in the team under new boss Simon Davey, contributing to Barnsley's survival in the Championship.

2007/08 was arguably Devaney's best season in a Reds shirt, scoring another four goals from midfield and assisting Steven Foster's equaliser at Anfield in the F.A. Cup Fifth Round and also Kayode Odejayi's winner over Chelsea in the F.A. Cup Quarter Final.

Loan spells at MK Dons and Walsall were the most football Devaney got in the last two seasons as Mark Robins rang the changes at the club following the departure of Simon Davey.

Devaney made a total of 179 appearances and scored 18 goals for Barnsley.

Vital Barnsley's favourite memory of Disco is his brace at Home Park in the 4-2 win over Plymouth in March 2007. Two absolute beauties!
