Robins: We Deserve Credit

Robins: We Deserve Credit

Barnsley vanquished the Sky Blue hoodoo this afternoon with a hard earned victory at Oakwell over Coventry City.

Nobody was more pleased about that fact than Reds boss Mark Robins. He told the club's official site: 'We know we never get anything against Coventry and we have that rammed down our throats every time so it is nice to put that to bed at the start of a new year.'

The Reds had not beaten Coventry City since both teams were in the Premier League and the Sky Cameras watched Barnsley beat the Sky Blues 2-0 at Oakwell. They have faired even worse at Coventry, without a win in almost 80 years and that was continued this season at the Ricoh Arena as Coventry crushed Barnsley 3-0.

Barnsley have begun to turn the trend around this afternoon however, with a surprisingly good goal from Nathan Doyle and the winner coming from Goran Lovre.

Mark Robins was mostly pleased to get the three points today. He continued: 'The most important thing was the points. We came through it today and competed against their style of play. We deserve a lot of credit for that.'

Coventry came with a typical Aidy Boothroyd game plan but were thwarted by a resolute Barnsley performance. If Saturday's point at Nottingham Forest was disappointing, this narrow victory is definitely very sweet indeed.
