Good Day For Ex Reds
Barnsley should remember Richard Naylor well, if not from his short spell at Oakwell than at least for his goal against us for Ipswich Town in the 2000 Championship Play-Off Final.
The big man spent a few weeks on loan at Barnsley in the season we were relegated from the Championship to League One, making eight appearances and hitting the post once. Not a great return for the Reds, but then he did convert to a centre back soon after his stint with us, before joining Leeds United.
He scored the only goal of the game on Saturday in Leeds United's win at Vicarage Road.
Nicky Wroe graduated from the Barnsley Academy to make over 50 appearances for the Reds, scoring one goal in a 3-2 victory at Edgeley Park over Stockport County.
He has since moved on to pastures new and found himself quite at home at Torquay United, where he has made over 100 appearances. Saturday saw him slam home a fifth minute penalty to open the scoring in a 2-1 win for the Gulls and keep them at the top of League 2 with four wins from four.
Finally, it wasn't quite a dream debut for Jon Macken at Walsall as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion, but Super Jon did come off the bench to score a very fine consolation goal for the Saddlers, finishing first time with a great effort from inside the box.
Macken made over 100 appearances for the Reds between 2007 and 2010, scoring 22 goals after a £100,000 move from Derby County.
