Hume May Go

The rumour mill is still in full spin as we approach the end of the transfer window and the latest rumour is that Iain Hume may be joining Preston North End before long.

Hume, who joined the Tykes in 2008 from Leicester City for £1.2m has been out of favour so far this season at Oakwell and may be heading for the exit door shortly.

The diminuitive striker was left out of the Reds' squad completely for the victory at home to Crystal Palace but returned to the squad for the trip to Ashton Gate.

Mark Robins has mentioned that Hume could be loaned out to get some first team action but it now seems that a cash deal may also be on the cards, with Darren Ferguson of Preston expressing his interest in Hume recently.

Director of Football at Barnsley, Don Rowing told The Star that 'We're quite prepared to let Iain move on, whether it's a loan deal or a permanent deal. As long as it suits everybody concerned, then we'll be happy with a move.'

I for one would be particularly sad to see Iain go, as I don't believe he's had a fair share of chances since his return from the infamous head injury. His record of 9 goals from 34 starts isn't bad at all considering the long lay-off he endured and his intermittent runs in the first team.

If Hume has to go to make way for a new striker, they'd better be as industrious as he is and as good at set pieces. Nothing is concrete yet but I'd like to wish him every success wherever he goes, if and when he does.
