Barnsley Loan Stoke Star

Barnsley Loan Stoke Star

Barnsley Football Club have completed the signing of Stoke City midfielder Diego Arismendi on a season long loan.

The 22-year-old Uruguyan international will join up with the Tykes for the whole of the 2010/11 season and be on contention for a starting place in Robins` new look Barnsley side.

Purchased from Nacional for £2.5m by Stoke, the talented midfielder made just 2 appearances in a Stoke City shirt since he arrived in England, spending some time on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion last season, for whom he made 6 appearances. However, Barnsley boss Mark Robins has seen enough to ask Tony Pulis` permission to take Diego on loan for a full season as the Reds look to build on last season`s anticlimax of a season.

Vital Stoke City reported that the Uruguyan "seems to be finding it tough settling into English football," which doesn`t bode too well but pre-season optimism is in abundance as usual so I`ll give him the benefit of the doubt, backing him to come good until he eventually leaves, just like I did with Odejayi, Rigters, Knight, Wright, Mossto, Boulding, Rankin…….can I stop now?
