Reds Four Opening Day Win

With the fixture lists announced, the odds are coming in for the first match and you can get 4/1 on Barnsley winning at Loftus Road against promotion favourites Queens Park Rangers.

You'd have to go back to the 2005/2006 season to find the first time the Reds won their opening fixture, a 2-0 victory over Swindon Town at Oakwell with goals from Paul Hayes and Chris Shuker.

But to find the last time the Reds won an away match on the opening day, you'd be going back to the 1996/97 season and looking at a 2-1 victory at the Hawthorns over West Brom, with Clint Marcelle and Andy Liddell on the scoresheet for the Reds.

As if you needed telling, that was the season the Reds won promotion to the Premier League, so perhaps a win at QPR on August 7th would signify a good omen for the Reds. Or perhaps I'm intoxicated with perennial optimism. Probably the latter.
