Barnsley Rank Outsiders

It's the same every year and this season there's no change. Barnsley are one of the longest odds to win the league at 66/1 and fourth longest at 14/1 to gain promotion.

In their fifth successive season back in the Championship after promotion from League 1, the Reds are still outsiders, behind the three newly promoted teams.

The Reds have lost top goal scorer Daniel Bogdanovic to Sheffield United on a free transfer and released a few other big names including former Manchester United player Jon Macken.

Player of the Season Hugo Roberto Colace is yet to sign a new deal at the club and the clock is ticking away for him to do so. It's looking increasingly likely that he won't and I wouldn't be suprised if it emerged that he's already signed a pre-contract agreement with a club back in his homeland of Argentina.

In a slow moving transfer market the Reds have found only three replacements for the players they have released, in the shape of Norwich academy graduate Jason Shackell, relatively unknown Serbian Goran Lovre and Motherwell winger Jim O'Brien.

Depending on your optimism, it might be worth a few quid on the Reds to go up this year. Who knows? Well the bookies certainly don't. Before the start of last season you could get 150/1 on Blackpool.
