>b>So far Barnsley have made three summer signings in the build up to the new season. Robins has brought in Jason Shackell from Wolves, Goran Lovre from FC Groningen and Jim O'Brien from Motherwell.
We have, however, released quite a few players. Rob Kozluk and Darren Moore have been shown the door, along with Jon Macken, Anderson Da Silva, Michael Coulson and Simon Heslop.
Daniel Bogdanovic has all but left the club despite being offered improved terms in a new contract. He has snubbed Barnsley opting to talk to other 'bigger' Championship clubs.
So if we look at the squad as it stands we have:
Goalkeepers:
Luke Steele
David Preece
Defenders
Stephen Foster
Bobby Hassell
Luke Potter
Jason Shackell
O'Neil Thompson
Midfielders
Martin Devaney
Jacob Butterfield
Adam Hammill
Jim O'Brien
Nathan Doyle
Hugo Colace
Alistair Taylor
Goran Lovre
Strikers
Iain Hume
Andy Gray
Reuben Noble-Lazarus
Jamil Adam
This squad of course assumes that O'Neil Thompson isn't going to Darlington and Hugo Colace is going to sign a new contract but he's cutting it fine if he is.
We definitely need at least one other striker. Adam and Noble-Lazarus aren't quite ready to plug the gaps up front if Gray or Hume are injured.
The midfield, if Colace stays, actually looks fairly decent. We've enough cover on the wings and Doyle and Butterfield can do a good job in the middle, leaving Lovre to provide the attacking threat from the centre.
We really need to bring in defenders. Hassell would be my preferred choice at right back but his bravery is often the cause of injury to himself. At left back I'd probably like to see Carl Dickinson come back in some capacity. He's composed on the ball and has a great left foot.
Steele and Preece should have the sticks covered for the season barring any silly red cards.
To conclude we need about three more defenders and one or two more strikers to set us up nicely with a decent sized squad for the new campaign, with a possible replacement for Colace if he moves on.
