Shackell Joins Reds

The Reds' official site today reports that Barnsley have 'beaten a host of clubs to win the race for Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Jason Shackell.'

The 6'4' defender has agreed a three year deal with the Reds and told the official site that it was Reds boss Mark Robins' ambition that brought him to Oakwell:

'I am delighted to be here. I feel that this is the right place to be at this stage of my career.' 26 year old Shackell is a product of Norwich City's youth academy and has played in the Premier League for both the Canaries and Wolves.

'He [Robins] was keen to get me in and his enthusiasm, ambition and drive really made this feel like the right place for me.'

Mark Robins was equally full of praise for Shackell's attributes; 'I am delighted to have signed Jason today. He has proven himself to be a more than capable Championship player and is a leader on the pitch.'

This signing could see the forging of another great partnership at the heart of the Reds' defence alongside current club captain Stephen Foster.
