'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Barnsley Bogged Down With Talks

It's the news you didn't want to hear but it's becoming an all too familiar headline at this club.

Another player has got a little too big for their boots and decided to take the club for everything they've got. We had it before with Brian Howard, who was rewarded with the captaincy for his efforts in midfield for the Reds but then threw it back in the club's face for a massive wage and 'improved prospects' at Sheffield United. Turned out well for him there.

This time it's the turn of leading scorer Daniel Bogdanovic to hold the club to ransom.

A self proclaimed natural born goal-scorer, Daniel has fired in 14 goals for the Reds this season to help them to the opportunity of their highest football league finish in 10 years but his contract runs out at the end of the season.

The club have been locked in talks for a couple of months and it's now being reported that he has rejected a second offer from Barnsley. Director Don Rowing told BBC Radio Sheffield: 'We made an offer to extend to his contract but, after consultation, he has refused it.'

It's disappointing news to say the least but then if we have another mercenary on our hands then it's better to get rid of them now than to let them take us for a ride.

Rowing continued: 'There is a big difference between the player and club at the moment but we can't compromise the future of the football club by paying money we can't afford.' Certainly a wise decision given the mess we got into a few years ago with players on Premier League wages at League 1 level.

The conclusion to the saga is not far away with only 2 games left in the season. My tip is that Daniel will join a fellow Championship club. One with a little more money, a better reputation and better prospects of promotion. But a move to Sheffield United wouldn't surprise me either.
