Martin Has Three Big Games
One of who I'd call 'the lucky ones', Martin Devaney is not out of contract this summer at Barnsley. He still one year left on his current deal but that doesn't mean his resting easy.
Quite the opposite in fact. Now that the club are safe, it might be tempting for some players to switch off and start thinking about summer on the beaches or watching (yes watching, not playing in) the World Cup. Devaney however is preparing to run his legs off in the final three games of the season.
After being frozen out of the first team squad since the game away at Watford, Robins' first game in charge of Barnsley, Disco has kept himself fit and ready to go whenever he's been called upon.
He spent a month on loan at MK Dons earlier in the year but didn't do quite enough to earn an extension and so had to come back to Barnsley and be content to train every day and simply watch from the stands as his team mates climbed to 9th in the table and then fell away again.
However, thanks to an injury to Emil Hallfredsson against Sheffield United, Martin got a lifeline at Bramall Lane and came on to run his heart out for the Reds. He's been arguably the only one that's looked bothered on the pitch in the last three games and I re-iterate, he's not one who's looking for a new deal.
Despite a long lay off this season, Martin is still third in the squad for minutes on the pitch in a Barnsley shirt, behind Bobby Hassell, the only player who's been with us longer and recently slipping behind captain Stephen Foster.
