'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fred No Longer Red

Emil Hallfredsson has returned to his parent club Reggina in Italy after his loan spell at Barnsley Football Club.

The Icelandic international joined the Reds on a season long loan in August 2009 but had his season and loan spell cut short by a broken foot sustained against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane a couple of weeks ago.

Nicknamed 'The Ice Man', Emil put in some very good displays in a Barnsley shirt, making 30 appearances and netting goals in the defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, the draw with Newcastle United and the 1-0 win over Watford.

The club's official website is giving nothing away in terms of the chance of a future for Fred at Barnsley, simply wishing him a 'speedy recovery' and thanking him for his services.

In my opinion, his displays have been rather Jeckyl and Hyde. Sometimes he's looked a different class for us but others he's looked indifferent. Maybe the international matches and flights had taken their toll prior to these instances.

He'd probably want relatively big money if he was offered a contract and I don't think he's worth it, particularly when we have a certain Mr Devaney waiting in the wings (no pun intended).
