Season Will Peter Out Now

Season Will Peter Out Now

After back to back defeats to Ipswich Town and Bristol City, Barnsley`s faint Play-Off hopes are seemingly in tatters, leaving them stranded in the middle of the table.

Technically they`re not out of the race for the Play-Offs, nor are they mathematically safe from relegation but realistically, neither are very likely to happen.

It looks like the season will fizzle out without any excitement at all, but after the previous few seasons, aren`t you glad about that? I`m not so sure. It`s a strange one to not feel tense at the end of the season. It`s not something we`ve had to endure, if that`s the right term, since 2004/2005, when we finished 10 points clear of relegation and 10 points outside of the Play-Offs. You`d think we`d be glad of it having suffered a scrap for survival in each of the last four seasons but it leaves a bit of an empty feeling, like there`s nothing left to play for.

Obviously the danger is that the players will start to think this way and before they know it, the club is dragged into the mix again to go down. Hopefully we can see out the rest of the season in decent form, picking up two or three wins.
