Double Double

Barnsley executed a double double in the space of a week with victories over arguably two of the best sides in the Championship this season.

In November the Reds grabbed a last gasp winner over Cardiff City at Oakwell with a deflected free-kick from Carl Dickinson sending the Bluebirds home with nothing from a tight game and a couple of weeks later, after the heartbreak of an abandoned game at Plymouth while they were 4-1 up, the Reds went to Blackpool and destroyed the only unbeaten home record left in the Championship with a back from the dead display to deny Blackpool the points after Charlie Adam had put the Seasiders ahead with a penalty in the 72nd minute. Bobby Hassell and Andy Gray stole the three points for the Reds late in the game.

This week the Reds have completed their first doubles of the season with victories over the same sides. Daniel Bogdanovic won the game after just 12 minutes with two goals for the Reds at the Cardiff City stadium and Iain Hume came off the bench to score the only goal of the game on Saturday against a Blackpool side that Ian Holloway apparently didn`t recognise.

The back to back victories pushed the Reds into the reckoning for a Play-Off place, now just four points off sixth place with a game in hand over those in 10th, 9th and 8th.

Last term they produced doubles over Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Plymouth Argyle.
