Shotton Banned For Four Games

Shotton Banned For Four Games

After his sending off against Watford at Oakwell on Saturday, the Reds' on loan defender Ryan Shotton will have to sit out the next four matches through suspension.

Shotton was dismissed late in the game on Saturday for a late challenge on Lloyd Doyley as Barnsley beat Watford 1-0. It is Shotton's second Red card of the season so the three game ban was automatically extended to four.

On second viewing through Barnsley Player, the challenge is definitely ill-timed but there was certainly no intention to hurt Lloyd Doyley from Shots who simply did a bit too much with the ball on the half way line and let it get away from himself. It wasn't a Kyrgiakos-esque two footed challenge, just a genuinely poor attempt to win the ball.

Reds boss Mark Robins was critical of Shotton in the post match interview. He told the official Barnsley website that 'he has got to learn to pass the ball and to concentrate more.'

Hopefully Bobby Hassell will be fit again to step in for the suspended Shotton starting tomorrow night at Middlesbrough.
