Tykes Hunt Down Foxes Win

Barnsley finally got off the mark in 2010 with a victory over Nigel Pearson's Leicester City at Oakwell.

The Reds had endured a dry run with just one win from six but got back to winning ways with a hard fought 3 points over a tough Leicester side.

Iain Hume came in and played 90 minutes at the expense of Daniel Bogdanovic who suffered an injury in training in the week. Darren Moore dropped to the bench but rejoined the action on fifteen minutes when Rob Kozluk was substituted having twisted his knee. Anderson Da Silva came back into the fold again with Emil Hallfredsson dropping to the bench.

The first half was one to forget for both sides with barely a shot on target and both goalkeepers must have been thanking their lucky stars but things got going just before the hour mark when Barnsley began to press Leicester. Adam Hammill produced something out of nothing when he struck an excellent effort goalwards from over 30 yards ten minutes into the second half but Chris Weale got up to prevent the scousers shot from bursting the net.

Iain Hume almost grabbed a dream goal against his old club minutes later but could only stab his effort wide.

Hugo Colace was on hand at the back post to side foot in an Iain Hume corner with just fourteen minutes to go after Shotton's header was blocked, much to the relief of the Barnsley staff and supporters.

Anderson Da Silva almost doubles the Reds' advantage some eight minutes later when his left footed effort was expertly stopped by Weale and the Leicester City defence managed to crowd out the poaching Andy Gray.

The four minutes of stoppage time were 'backs to the wall' for the Reds but they managed to stand firm, keeping their first clean sheet in ten matches and hold on for the narrowest of victories. The Reds rise now to fourteenth in the table, as high as they have been since the first day of the season.
