'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Robins Is No Big Spender

As quickly as reports appeared in the papers that the Reds were ready to launch a £2m swoop for David Healy and Jason Scotland the club have issued a statement signalling that there is no intent to splash the cash.

In an article posted on the club's official website Barnsley have stressed that the board will not sanction large transfer fees for the sake of it and are keen instead to secure the club's long term future.

Bang go the hopes of a play-off push.

While it's good to know that the club are acting 'responsibly' it shows a lack of ambition in an entertainment business to come out and say that there will not be any money spent in the current transfer window.

Basically then are we to believe that the club will simply be keeping the money we made from the sale of Jamal Campbell-Ryce - a reported profit of over £500,000? While loan signings are profitable for both the parent club and the borrowing club, they are not a long term solution.

The board are forsaking the short term success of the club for the long term fincial future of the club. Let's hope it doesn't mean being one of the most financially solvent clubs in League 1.
