Robins Makes Encouraging Start

Barnsley fans can be encouraged by the start made by Mark Robins which has seen the Reds make a significant improvement on both their performances and results compared with early on in the season.

Robins has taken charge of seven games so far, winning four, losing two and drawing one, including a victory over Premier League new boys Burnley, to set up a massive League Cup Fourth Round tie at Oakwell with his former employers Manchester United.

When Robins took over, the Reds were bottom of the table with just one point from their first five games, sporting a goal difference of minus 8.

He has however guided them to 20th in the table and picked up ten points from a possible eighteen in the league games he has taken charge of.

It might surprise a few to be reminded that the start made by Robins is not too disimilar to the start made by Simon Davey when he took charge of Barnsley as caretaker manager on November 22nd 2006. Davey bagged three wins, two draws and two defeats in his first seven games in charge.

It`s also worth noting however that Davey did then embark on a five game winless run, ended by a 2-0 victory over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.
