'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Barnsley Manager Davey Gone

Barnsley Football Club have issued a statement this evening, announcing that they have parted company with their first team manager Simon Davey with immediate effect.

The statement, given by the club through it's official website reads: 'It is with regret that Barnsley Football Club and first team manager Simon Davey have mutually agreed to part company.'

Davey did say after the game in a press conference that he wouldn't ever walk away from a job but if he has not been sacked, then it looks as though he has done just that.

The news comes hours after the Tykes slipped to their fourth defeat in five games, losing their third straight home game to Reading 3-1.

Barnsley are rooted to the bottom of the Championship with just one point to their name and a goal difference of -8.

Supporters have been calling for Davey's resignation since last season but the Welshman kept his job over the summer after talks with club owner Patrick Cryne.

There were protests by a small number of supporters outside the club's ground after the final whistle today.
