O'Neil Thompson Signs For Barnsley

Barnsley Football Club have confirmed the signing of Jamaican international O'Neil Thompson this evening.

The news comes less than 24 hours ahead of kick off at Hillsborough in arguably Barnsley's most exciting opening day fixture since West Ham United in 1997.

O'Neil 'Bigga' Thompson, nicknamed so because of his 6'4' physique, has put pen to paper on a 2 year deal with the Tykes, joining the club from Norwegian side Notodden FK.

The tall Jamaican who can play either in the centre of midfield or as a central defender spent a week on trial with the Reds, impressing in midfield on Saturday in the Reds' final pre-season fixture, a 1-1 draw with Premier League giants Manchester City at Oakwell.

On O'Neil Thompson, Reds manager Simon Davey told the club's official website: 'He has impressed everybody during his time at Oakwell and he is a player with great stature, composure and presence on the pitch...'

Thompson will be hopeful that the transfer can be registered and a work permit granted in time for tomorrow's massive game at Hillsborough.
