Voting Poll Ends: Davey's Tenure

It was a close call but in the end the majority of voters think that Simon Davey should be given 10 games to sort out Barnsley's fortunes in the Championship.

Since promption via the Play-offs in 2006, the Tykes have struggled to make an impact in the Championship and have clung on to their second tier status by the skins of their teeth for the last three seasons.

Some hail Davey as a great manager with lots of potential who has done a great job in keeping the club up on limited resources. Whereas others argue that he has has 2 and a half seasons and never progressed beyond the bottom reaches of the table, despite bringing in an almost entirely new squad.

In my opinion Davey has done a good job of keeping the club up. In today's financial climate he has one of the hardest jobs in the Championship. Some clubs, particularly those who have been relegated from the Premier League, have not had to work as hard to tackle the recession and have found it much easier attracting quality players.

Davey has worked at Barnsley on a shoestring budget since day one and deserves some genuine respect from not only the fans but his peers.
