Muller a Goner

Barnsley confirmed today the sale of goalkeeper Heinz Muller to FSV Mainz 05.

The 31 year old returns to his homeland to join the newly promoted Bundesliga outfit.

Barnsley look to have made a profit on Muller in excess of 400,000 as the club website explains that the deal went through for a fee in the region of 600,000.

The giant German made 69 appearances for the Reds and enjoyed some great times in goal for the club, memorably saving numerous penalties to hang on to 3 points for the reds. After falling out of favour towards the end of last season, the club opted to sell the German, who had a year left on his contract and offered his couterpart Luke Steele a new two year deal.

Good business this; Muller looked the part and in many ways was the real deal. The problem was he couldn't keep concentration and that can be very costly. How many games did he lose Barnsley by being careless?
