Barnsley Behind Blades?

There is never any love lost between Barnsley and Sheffield United when the two clubs meet in any competition, not least after the disgraceful elbow on Barnsley striker Iain Hume in November at Oakwell by former Barnsley hero Chris Morgan. But this bank holiday Monday, there may be a few cheers from the Barnsley faithful if Sheffield United gain promotion via the Play-off Final at Wembley against Burnley.

Following the sale of midfielder Brian Howard to Sheffield United in January, Barnsley may be entitled to further payments from the Blades for the former Barnsley captain, should they reach the Premiership. The clause included in the former Barnsley captain`s contract dictates that Barnsley would receive a further £200,000 and may receive an additional payment should Sheffield United then retain their Premiership status at the end of the 2009/10 season.

It may hurt to be willing a team to win that are local rivals, containing two former captains, one of whom inflicted the nastiest injury on a player many have ever seen at Oakwell, but it may also pay dividends in the transfer market in the summer by increasing our budget. The question is, what price do you put on your local pride?

How shallow football has become in this money grabbing era! Support the Clarets, you know you want to!!

I will never want the blades to do well, 200k is peanuts compared to what they will recieve if they go up. I think Burnley thoroughly deserve to go up having played so many games with such a small squad. They can stick their 200k!
