Davey Looking To Strengthen Front Line

With 2008/09 campaign barely at a close, the question of who will be leaving and arriving at Oakwell in the close season is already hanging on the lips of many a journalist and supporter.

Simon Davey will have completed his second full season in charge of Barnsley on Sunday and has at his disposal a squad made almost entirely of his own acquisitions with the exceptions of Martin Devaney, Bobby Hassell and the injured Michael Coulson.

Attacking options will look threadbare come July, with Michael Mifsud and Maceo Rigters returning to their respective parent clubs from their loans at Oakwell. Also, Kayode Odejayi and Jonathan Macken are both out of contract at the end of June and Iain Hume and Michael Coulson are yet to make their return to full training from their respective head and knee injuries, leaving Daniel Bogdanovic and Jamil Adam the only established strikers at the club, the latter with just two sub appearances to his name.

It will come as no surprise therefore, if Davey, should he still be at the helm, goes on the hunt in the transfer market once more for a striker or two.

It seems like the majority of the fans want Davey out, I as part of what would seem like a minority would like to see him given another chance to get it right. I do believe the club has massively under achieved this season but another new manager cant be the way forward just yet. Davey has brought some good players to the club and the thought of some exciting new strikers is of interest. Maybe we can bring Adam Hammil back for a full season! I say we give Davey at least a third of a season, but despite what the fans think, i'm sure he will be kicking off the 09/10 season as Barnsley manager.
