The Barnsley pronunciation of 'Colace'?

Heads were scratched and sighs exhaled when clearance was still pending for Hugo Roberto Colace but the exotic names are definitley not few and far between down at Oakwell.

The midfielder has settled in ever so well to the English game, nestling in to protect the back four, scooping up loose balls and scraping out stray passes.

Hugo, who turned 25 on the sixth of January, was born in Buenos Aires in Argentina. He represented his country at Under-20 level at the FIFA World Youth Championships, where the Argentines finished in fourth position. Hugo was the captain of that side which included Manchester Utd's Carlos Tevez and Liverpool's Javier Mascherano.

Despite being signed in close-season, Hugo didn't receive clerance to play for Barnsley until early September, but how the Argentine has got into the swing of things has surprised everyone at the Club, including the management.

Having made nineteen appearances already, there is still some confusion as to how Hugo's surname (Colace) is properly pronounced. Perhaps 'Smith' or 'Dave' would be easier for Barnsley folk to pronounce but here's how we can settle this: a Vital Barnsley poll!

Phonetic spellings of how you think his name is pronounced:

Colatsee

Colarchy

Coluss

Col-ace

Maybe someone could ask him! He might just possibly be the best judge of how to pronounce it.

Not lived in Barnsley for a long time, but I know exactly what you mean, even the commentry teams have trouble pronouncing it. I wonder how Mark Lawrence would say it - he's usually the first to cock up players names! Decent article though matty!
