'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Davey disgusted with referee

Barnsley manager Simon Davey had to hide his frustration with the referee following his side's draw with Preston at Oakwell.

On entering the post-match press conference Simon jokingly asked the press not to ask him about referees!

Simon said:

"I thought we deserved to win the game and we created more chances. We were the better side out there but that`s part of football and its unfortunate."

When actually asked about the referee`s unusual display, Davey replied:

"I thought the referee was fantastic. He`s one of the best officials we`ve had down here all season.'

Davey was clearly joking but was in no mood to provoke the FA into disciplining him.

"Jamie Cureton scored a great goal. It was a great finish from what was not even a chance really. He`s a great finisher.

"You always want to go through Christmas undefeated and look to pick up as many points as possible. We have picked up seven and we should have had more after our game here at Oakwell. We are disappointed only to get seven points. We did enough today to win the game but for a fantastic referee and we have only drawn."
