Simon says: Funds are available

Barnsley manager Simon Davey is ready to strengthen his side when the January transfer window opens.

Suspensions and injuries, not to mention Iain Hume, have rocked the Reds in the past month or so, and the Welsh boss insists funds are available next year.

Speaking to barnsleyfc.co.uk, Davey said:

'We're looking to strengthen and looking for the next Dennis Souza or Heinz Muller,'

'We will look everywhere, see what our requirements are in January and look to pull someone out again.

However, Davey is aware that money doesn't neccessarily buy everything:

'We know what we want and where we have to strengthen. It is fine to say that there is money available to spend, but what if the players we want aren't?

'When you look at the top strikers in this division they will be with Wolves, Reading and Birmingham and they will not want to come to Barnsley Football Club.

The Reds boss is also aware that a fight for lower league strikers will also prove tough:

'When you look at the league below and the likes of (Matt) Fryatt, (Craig) Mackail-Smith and (Rickie) Lambert then you will be fighting with everybody for their signatures.'

Simon Davey will probably use his contacts abroad if he is to find another rough diamond to bring to Oakwell.
