Hume assist not enough for Canada

CONCACAF Stage III of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Qualifiers

Mexico 2 Canada 1

Iain Hume once again came from the bench and managed to create a goal for Canada but his effort wasn't enough as the Canucks suffered a 2-1 defeat to Mexico.

Despite Tomasz Radzinski being unavailable on the left due to a hand injury, Jim Brennan was preferred over Iain Hume.

The Barnsley striker was sent on in the 68th minute and it didn't take long for the Scottish-born attacker to create something.

The 24-year-old swung in a cross for fellow substitue Ali Gerba to pull one back for the Canadians.

Hume is now on his way home from Mexico, and manager Simon Davey will be hoping his million-pound-man will feel fresh enough for the Red's trip to face Blackpool on Saturday.
