Barnsley Iron out Togwell sale

Scunthorpe United have swooped in to sign Barnsley midfielder Sam Togwell on a free transfer.

The 23-year-old seemed set to sign for Yeovil Town this week, but the deal was stalled due to problems at Huish Park.

Sam has signed a two-year deal at Glandford Park, and is hoping that the Iron will bounce straight back into the Championship following last season`s relegation.

Togwell told scunthorpe-united.co.uk:
"It`s a good move for me, the club are ambitious in that they want to get back to the Championship. Hopefully we can do that this year - whether it`s the play-offs or automatic, only time will tell."

Togwell was transfer-listed last season as Barnsley boss Simon Davey couldn`t promise him regular first-team football.

Sam continued:

I wouldn`t have signed if i didn`t think we were capable of achieving promotion."

'Togs` was a signing of former boss Andy Ritchie in the summer of 2006 as the Reds prepared for their return to the Championship.

The Maidenhead-born man was virtually ever-present as the Tykes battled to Championship safety by the end of the 2006/2007 season.

Vital Barnsley would like to thank Sam for his fantastic work rate and endeavour during his time at Oakwell . We wish him every success in his future career.
