Barnsley land Rigters on season-long loan

Barnsley have completed the signing of striker Maceo Rigters on a season-long loan from Premier League side Blackburn Rovers.

The 24-year-old Dutchman will be available to make his Barnsley debut at Loftus Road tomorrow for the opening day of the 2008/2009 Coca Cola Championship campaign.

Rigters won the European U21 Championship Golden Boot award in 2007 after bagging four goals in five games for Holland. His impressive show for the U21`s caught the eye of former Blackburn boss Mark Hughes, who brought Rigters to the Lancashire club.

Davey stated he was close to signing a striker last Friday but the deal was halted, but now Simon has his man so the squad`s attacking options have been boosted. It will be interesting to see which front two Davey opts for with Macken, Hume, Odejayi, Mostto and Rigters in contention.
